Members of the Mariners In Mission (MIMs) service organization donate their time and abilities to Presbyterian camps, for two work weeks each year (one in the spring and one in the fall - based on camps’ schedules).
MIMs collaborate with the host camp to determine the week’s projects. Typical projects have included various construction needs, deconstruction, repairs, painting, staining, sewing, office work, etc.
Some of these folk have been volunteering with MIMs for multiple years, while some have been a part of the efforts since the 1980s. Over the years, they have become good friends and see the work weeks as a kind of family reunion, even with adult children joining their parents. They relish the opportunity to travel the country in service to meet up together. When not working, they share morning watch, evening vespers, puzzles and games like Mexican Train Dominoes! Participants usually drive to their work sites so they can bring their “favorite” tools and equipment they will use during the week.
MIMs value working together with camp staff and camp volunteers. New folk are welcomed to join in these efforts!
