Job Description:
The Lake Nixon Outdoor Center in Little Rock, Arkansas is looking for a leader for our award-winning Summer Day Camp which has provided opportunities for outdoor fun, personal growth, and friendships for 54 years.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its role in a landmark 1960s Civil Rights decision, the Lake Nixon Outdoor Center is a scenic 220-acre property located minutes from the heart of Arkansas’ capital city. A ministry of Second Baptist Church (downtown Little Rock) since 1969, Lake Nixon provides inclusive opportunities for recreation, education, and sanctuary in this portion of God’s creation that we are fortunate to steward and share with others. Though 2BC membership is not a requirement of the position, the director should be comfortable serving as an indirect representative of Second Baptist Church (a member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship).
We seek a camp director who will:
Demonstrate good character: she or he will be caring, honest, trustworthy, humble, and more.
Share a contagious excitement/passion for camp that campers, staff, and camp families can see, hear, and feel.
Possess and/or be eager to develop the necessary administrative skills and knowledge base for managing a large seasonal business: program planning, budgeting, and scheduling; structuring, recruiting, hiring, and paying staff; recruiting and enrolling campers; reviewing and implementing safety and other procedures; communicating with licensing agencies, and more.
The camp director will collaborate with other Lake Nixon administrative staff in many of the areas above, but will be involved with all of them.
The camp director will remain engaged with the broader camping industry for peer support and professional development.
Have a clear sense of the “heart”, “mission”, “culture” (even “vibe”) of Lake Nixon Summer Day Camp, and be able to communicate it effectively as well as translate it into program goals and specific components of the camper (and staff) experience.
The day camp director will also perform other duties as assigned. This includes working with the rest of the Lake Nixon staff to welcome groups and other guests throughout the year.
This is a full-time, year-round position with benefits, with salary ranging from $44K-$54K. On-site private housing is potentially available.
